History
The LaBiche Architectural Group offers the experience, history, and unique qualifications to design a diverse variety of building projects for businesses, individuals, and organizations.
The LaBiche Architectural Group, Inc. is a continuation of Steinman & Associates, founded in 1901 by Frederick William Steinman. Located in Beaumont, TX Mr. Steinman’s grandson, Douglas E. Steinman, Jr. continued the firm until 2000 when Dohn H. LaBiche, FAIA purchased the firm after working with Douglas for 14 years.
Through the years the predecessor firms designed many of Beaumont’s landmarks including City Hall, the Edson Hotel, the old First Methodist Church, and the City Library. The firm’s expertise in design of landmark buildings continues the excellence in architecture started over 119 years ago.
Personalized Service
Our firm has made a conscious decision to limit the growth of the firm to a size that can give the kind of personalized service that has made it successful over the years. Instead of growth in size, The LaBiche Architectural Group, Inc. has concentrated its management efforts on making the existing firm more efficient and responsive to the client’s needs.
Experience
In 1985, the firm became the first architectural firm in Beaumont, Texas, to totally implement Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) into the production of all construction documents and we continue to employ the most up-to-date technology available. The firm currently operates five workstations, which utilize state-of-the-art hardware and software, adding to the accuracy and consistency of construction documents.
In 2020, The LaBiche Architectural Group was awarded the AIA Houston Design Award for Historical Preservation of the Galveston Water and Electric Light Station located at 3002 Ball Street in Galveston, Texas. Our firm was also awarded by The City of Galveston Planning Commission the Planning & Design Award for 2020 Historic Preservation, and the Texas Historical Commission Awards for Excellence in Historic Architecture for our efforts in the rehabilitation of the Galveston Water and Electric Light Station. Since then, our firm has been recognized by the Galveston Historical Foundation to be selected for a Sally Wallace Preservation Award.
Our firm has served various institutions since its inception in 2000. The primary focus of our firm’s work has been with municipalities, historical restorations, commercial properties, individual’s and independent school districts across Southeast Texas. We believe that our wide range in architectural projects to be advantageous since most projects contain more than one specific user group.
Our past experience has given our staff the ability to interpret the needs and desires of multi-disciplined clients. The LaBiche Architectural Group is well versed in the TAS and works closely with the registered accessibility specialist during the plan review and construction phase to be certain all standards are being correctly followed. As a result of our diligence early on in the design process and during construction, our projects are both code compliant and accessible to all people. Because of our familiarity with these principles, our services have been required by a considerable number of institutions for their compliance renovations.
